About ISI Academy
The ISI Academy was created in 2023 to help develop the capacity of statisticians and data professionals in ways tailored to the International Statistical Institute’s comparative advantages. The ISI Academy is a dynamic vehicle for nurturing sustainable strategic solutions to the priority international and regional capacity development challenges faced by our members. It provides a framework for our members to innovate by leveraging the International Statistical Institute’s scientific and organizational independence, our members’ passion for data and statistics, extensive cross-sectoral networks of expertise, high academic standards, and global and regional reach.
Our primary goal is to address the capacity development requirements within the field of statistics and data-related professions by leveraging our expansive global reach of members.

ISI Academy Team

Pietro Gennari, ISI Academy Coordinator
Pietro Gennari was appointed ISI Academy Coordinator in July 2025, bringing over 35 years of experience in official statistics from national, regional, and international roles, including senior positions at UN organisations like FAO. He has a long history of leadership within the international statistical community and is also an experienced lecturer and editor.

Alper Gucumengil, ISI Academy Lead Expert
Alper Gucumengil was appointed ISI Academy Lead Expert in July 2025, bringing over 24 years of experience in official statistics, capacity development and data governance. His career includes managing significant projects at the Turkish Statistical Institute and serving as a consultant for UN agencies, where he contributed to SDG monitoring and national data strategies across many countries. He also recently served as a Data Governance Specialist at UNDP Headquarters.
