To honour Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), an English statistician and the founder of modern nursing with a passion for service and care, and to honour candidates who have demonstrated exceptional scholarship, the International Biometrical Society and the Caucus for Women in Statistics and Data Science have partnered to support the Florence Nightingale Award.
Finalists who have displayed a record of service and commitment to honourable causes have been recognised as Finalists and recently participated in one of two "virtual IBC" sessions, open to IBS members and International Biometric Conference registrants free of charge. These sessions were recorded and are now available online at www.biometricsociety.org.
Please join us in recognising the Finalists from this year's competition: Serifat Folorunso, Ashefet Agete Mengste, Shongkour Roy, Seyifemickael Tilema, Ulrich Kemmo Tsafack, Diribsa Tsegaye Bedada, Habtamu Wubetie, and Hawah Nabajja.
Following the sessions and the official judging process, the winner of the Florence Nightingale Award for 2024 and the US dollars 1,000.00 prize is Ulrich Kemmo Tsafack (“Tri-level Variable Selection Method for Ultra-high Dimensional Multi-omics Data”). We would also like to recognise the Runner-Up of this year’s Florence Nightingale Award, Diribsa Tsegaye Bedada (“Handling of Missing Data in HIV Studies with Survey Weights”).
The IBS looks forward to offering new applicants the opportunity to apply for the 2026 Florence Nightingale Award competition in early 2026. Abstract submission for the IBC is required. For more information, visit the Biometric Society website or contact ibs@biometricsociety.org.
