About the instructor
Chair of the ISI Young Statisticians Committee (2023-2025)
Professor at Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral, Guayaquil, EcuadorChristian Galarza holds a Doctorate and a Master's in Statistics from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil. He has also been a Research Scholar at the University of Connecticut (UCONN), USA. He is a professor and researcher at ESPOL in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He is the third Ecuadorian elected as an International Statistical Institute (ISI) member.He was recognized with the ISI Young Ambassador Award for the International Biometrics Society (IBC Riga 2020), World Bank Trust Fund Awardee (WSC Kuala Lumpur 2019), the ISI Jan Tinbergen Award (WSC Marrakech 2017), and the IASI Award for Excellence (WSC Rio 2015).His research focuses on developing statistical models for complex data and implementing them in R libraries. His expertise includes truncated multivariate moments, quantile regression, and censored models.
About the instructor
Renata Rojas Guerra holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics (2013) and a Master's degree in Production Engineering (2015) from the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), Brazil. She earned her Ph.D. in Statistics from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil (2017), and completed a visiting research period at the University of Pavia, Italy (2023). Since 2017, she has been a Professor in the Statistics Department at UFSM. She is an Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) for 2024-2028, a grantee of the Serrapilheira Institute, and an ISI Elected Member. In 2023, she received the ISI Jan Tinbergen Award - Division A, and in 2024 was selected as an ISI Young Ambassador at the 32nd International Biometric Conference. Her research interests include survival analysis, econometrics, distribution theory, and statistical image/signal processing. She is also a coordinator of the StatUFSM project, which aims to make statistical science accessible to society through digital platforms.
About the instructor
Federico Segui is the Deputy Director General of the National Statistical Institute of Uruguay. He is also NSI’s Data Steward and Chief Data Officer, and responsible for the implementation of the Data Warehouse - Integrated System of Statistical Registers and Surveys at the NSI. He holds graduate degrees in Information Systems and Reengineering from ORT Uruguay University and University of Oxford and has recently specialized in data analysis and engineering.
He has been a consultant for several international organisations as an expert in official statistics based on administrative registers, quality of statistics, metadata and microdata anonymisation. He is also author of various publications and papers on those topics.
About the instructor
Andrés is the Regional Expert in Social Statistics at the ECLAC Statistics Division, where he offers advice and assistance to National Statistical Offices and other institutions within the National Statistical Systems of beneficiary countries. His work focuses on social statistics, survey methodology for household surveys, and small area estimation models, with particular emphasis on the Sustainable Development Goals monitoring framework. He currently serves as Vice-President of the International Association of Survey Statisticians. Andrés has authored several books, papers, and software related to survey sampling, small area estimation, Bayesian statistics, and statistical inference.
