Natasha Stavros. Analytics Hub Director. Earth Lab, Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES), University of Colorado Boulder

We are experiencing catastrophic global environmental change:  global warming, population growth, and the sixth mass extinction. There is a pressing need to understand why our world is changing and predict changes to adapt. Despite progress made through emerging data analytics (e.g., machine learning) for data integrations, pattern recognition and causal inference, there remains a need to transition between information of value to knowledge and informed actions. Using the WKID Innovation framework that combines the knowledge hierarchy, design thinking, project management, and system engineering, we can make the connections between research and decision support tools. WKID Innovation provides a basis for emulating intelligence and informing development of analytic algorithms that support artificial intelligence for every day decision making. In this talk, Dr. Stavros will talk about WKID Innovation and how it has been used to address the wicked wildfire problem by engaging academia, industry (non-profit and for profit), and government agencies.
