JOSEPH A. YAHAV, Vigevani Professor Emeritus at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, passed away in Jerusalem on August 6, 2016. Professor Yahav wrote his PhD thesis under David Blackwell at UC Berkeley (1963), was on the faculties of the departments of Statistics at Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University, Vice-President for Finance and Administration at the Hebrew University (1992-1994) and Director of the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (1994-2001). His research interests, centered around Theory of Statistics, covered Dynamic programming and Sequential analysis, as well as Social Security and Official Statistics.
