The International Statistical Institute is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Klaus Krickeberg, who died on 27 November 2025 in Bielefeld at the age of 96. Professor Krickeberg was elected to the ISI in 1971 and contributed to the international statistics community over many decades.
A distinguished probabilist, statistician and epidemiologist, Professor Krickeberg held professorships in Heidelberg, Bielefeld and Paris. His work spanned both theoretical and applied domains, and he became widely recognised for his long-standing contributions to public health initiatives in Vietnam. His leadership also extended to the broader statistical community, including his service as President of the Bernoulli Society from 1977 to 1979.
We extend our sincere condolences to his family, colleagues and all who were influenced by his work. Professor Krickeberg’s legacy will be remembered with great respect within the statistical sciences.
