Dear Members of the ISI & the statistical community worldwide,
We have been made aware of phishing emails that falsely claim to be from the ISI President, Association Presidents and Committee Chairs, or other members of the statistical community. These fraudulent messages may ask you to call a phone number, transfer funds, or share confidential information.
Be Aware:
- Impersonation: Scammers may use a fake or slightly altered email address to appear legitimate.
- Social Engineering: Messages often create urgency or authority to pressure you into acting quickly.
- Data Theft: The ultimate goal is to trick you into sending money or sharing sensitive data.
Important: The ISI President, ISI Director, Executive Committee Members, Permanent Office staff, or any other ISI officials will never ask you to transfer funds directly. All financial transactions always follow a proper, standardised process.
What You Should Do:
- Check the email address carefully. Do not rely only on the sender’s name.
- Be suspicious of urgent requests. ISI Executive Committee, the ISI President, the ISI Director, or the Permanent Office staff will never ask for money or confidential details via email.
- Do not click links or open attachments in suspicious emails.
- Verify through trusted channels. If you receive a request from the President, Executive Committee, or Permanent Office, do not use the contact details in the suspicious email. Instead, contact the Director directly at [email protected].
Your vigilance is critical in keeping our community safe. Please report any suspicious emails immediately.
Sincerely,
The International Statistical Institute
