Atul Gawande shared these powerful words during a 2018 Caltech commencement speech. But in the years since, that commitment has been challenged. Misinformation and conspiracy theories—amplified by social media—have clouded public understanding of science. In this episode of “Stats + Stories,” Ionica Smeets, chair of the Science Communication and Society Research group at Leiden University, talks about the challenges and importance of effectively communicating science to the public. Tune in to explore why “how” we talk about science is now more critical than ever.
