About the instructor
Marcelo Campos is an assistant professor (Pesquisador Adjunto) at the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA) and a Junior Research Fellow at Trinity College, University of Cambridge. He earned his PhD in mathematics from IMPA in 2023 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Oxford. Marcelo’s research focuses on combinatorics — especially Ramsey theory, random matrix theory, convex geometry, and probabilistic methods — and he has a strong record of collaborative publications in these areas.
About the instructor
Simon Richard Griffiths is a British mathematician and professor in the Department of Mathematics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), where he has taught and conducted research since 2016. He earned his PhD from the University of Cambridge and completed several postdoctoral fellowships at institutions including IMPA (Brazil), the University of Montreal, McGill University (Canada), and the University of Oxford. Griffiths’ research focuses on combinatorics and probability, particularly in problems related to graph theory and Ramsey theory. His work has been recognised with prestigious accolades like the Fulkerson Prize for excellence in discrete mathematics, and he was elected as an Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC). He also contributes to advancing mathematical knowledge through collaborative projects that have led to significant theoretical breakthroughs.
