IASS Satellite Conferences to the 65th World Statistics Congress in July 2025

As part of the lead-up to the 65th World Statistics Congress, the International Association of Survey Statisticians is proud to announce two major satellite conferences taking place in Italy in July 2025. These events will bring together international experts, researchers, and practitioners in survey methodology, small area estimation, and official statistics.

ITACOSM2025: 9th Italian Conference on Survey Methodology

Dates: 1-4 July, 2025

The 9th Italian Conference on Survey Methodology (ITACOSM2025) will serve as an IASS Satellite Conference, hosted by the University of Bologna. It will provide a vibrant forum for the discussion of recent developments in survey statistics and methodology.

We are delighted to announce a distinguished lineup of six keynote speakers:

  • Alina Matei – University of Neuchâtel
  • Nikos Tzavidis – University of Southampton
  • Jean-François Beaumont – Statistics Canada
  • Bella Struminskaya – Utrecht University
  • Michael Elliott – University of Michigan
  • Pier Francesco Perri – Former coordinator of the Italian S2G

Pre-Conference Short Courses in Rimini

Two optional half-day courses will be offered prior to the main conference:

  • Course 1 (9:30 AM – 1:00 PM): Advanced Sampling and Estimation Methods with R
    Lecturer: Alina Matei
  • Course 2 (2:15 PM – 5:45 PM): Introduction to Small Area Estimation (SAE) and Topics of Recent Research Interest
    Lecturer: Nikos Tzavidis

SAE2025: International Conference on Small Area Estimation, Surveys and Data Science

Dates: 7-11 July, 2025
Location: Torino, Italy

The SAE2025 conference will focus on methodological advances and practical applications in small area estimation, survey methods, and data science. The event is co-sponsored by the IASS and the International Association of Official Statistics.

This edition will feature keynote presentations from:

  • Partha Lahiri – University of Maryland
  • Raymond Chambers – University of Wollongong
  • Mariana Kotzeva – Eurostat

A special panel discussion titled “Opportunities and Challenges for Official Statistics in a Digital Era” will also be held.

Short Courses at SAE2025

Two additional short courses will be offered:

  • Course 1: Graph Sampling and Graph Representation Learning
    Lecturer: Li-Chun Zhang
  • Course 2: Conformal Prediction in Survey Sampling
    Lecturer: Brunero Liseo
